About Lýkoh

Being wanted, known, and loved is what I knew. Or at least an illusion of what I thought I had. But when the blood became water and the consistent presence was stagnant, my voice became static and my birthright a suggestion. The loss felt like the abandonment of gravity, the abandonment of something so certain. And it’s in the mystery and broken promises of absolutes and “the way it should be”s, I found my heartbeat.

So maybe the bullets and lies weren’t just deep wounds and scars made, but pivotal invitations to celebrate instead of mourn. Maybe pop music isn’t just loud noise, all about the beat, red solo cups, or parties. Maybe the loudest, most anthemic, and fist-pumping tracks are the echoes from the deepest, darkest, loneliest, and most vulnerable valleys.

Every let down and lost relationship taught that challenge and opportunity look a lot alike. The difference is in the perspective. So with every trial, another old receipt had lyrics scribbled on it, another melody was recorded onto my phone, and the musical pursuits of Lýkoh evolved.

Acquiring over 4,000 fans and 6,000 Spotify streams across 29 countries in just one year with only 3 singles, the 25-year-old multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer, and overall aural enigma, Lýkoh, has taken the Alternative Pop/Contemporary R&B scene by storm. His catchy lyrical hooks and driving instrumentation will have you captivated in the realm of electronic drums and soulful synths.

In 2017, Lýkoh began to slowly build traction as a new up and coming solo artist in his hometown in Maryland, gaining substantial social media presence and releasing over a dozen videos to his YouTube channel in a span of 4 months. In 2018, Lýkoh released his debut single, “Where Do We Go from Here,” under the stage name Chima. The single reached 2,000+ streams within the first three days of its release and the music video to follow racked up another 4,000+ views in just one week. Since that debut release, two other singles were released under the stage name Chima; one of which being “Macie,” which went on to gain over 15,000 views on YouTube. In early 2019, the decision was made to re-brand and begin releasing music under the new artist name “Lýkoh” (Lee-ko).

In May of 2018, Lýkoh was announced as First Place – Grand Prize Winner in the 2018 Shenandoah Valley; Apple Blossom's Got Talent Competition in Winchester, VA. He made an appearance at the 2018 Apple Blossom Festival Grand Feature Parade, escorted by local car dealership and sponsor of the event, Car Credit Nation of Winchester, VA. Following this victory, Lýkoh auditioned for ABC’s American Idol. Although this journey was short lived, he did manage to successfully make it through the first two rounds in Richmond, VA.

Working with his local team of engineers and producers alongside industry producers out of Los Angeles and New York, Lýkoh will be releasing a plethora of new music throughout this year along with an EP. In the short time since his first official release in January 2018, Lýkoh hasn’t failed to gain well-deserved recognition for his overwhelmingly ethereal radio-ready sound. And it looks like this is only the beginning for the breaking artist.
